how does the Linksys NC100 ver2.1 10/100 card compare to Netgear's?

I just got one of these Linksys card and was wondering if I should have gotten a Netgear card instead because the main chip on it is much smaller than those on the other 10/100 cards(looks like a 10Mbit card. Is this one of the cheap ones I got?

The linksys and netgear perform very closely. You got a good NIC there. Don't judge a chip by its size!

I had a lot of problem installing drivers with netgear FA311.

If you do try to get a good network card, make sure it is using a popular chipset so the drivers are there for every OS (tulip based or NE2kpci)

Some netgear card use National Semi chip and has a lot of compatibility problem in their drivers. I personally hate netgear card.

I started my network with two NC100v2 cards, and they've worked beautifully. No complaints here.

I must have just been unlucky with the Linksys NC100 v2 that I tried last year. It would randomly "die", and would require a reboot before it'd resume functioning. Happened under both Linux and Windows 98, so it almost certainly wasn't a driver issue. Probably not a load issue, either, as I don't exactly have heavy traffic on my home network. I bought a Sohoware SFA110A to replace it, and have had no problems with that card.

I also have a Linksys LNE100TX v4.1 in a different machine, and that card has also worked fine so far.
