How does the dual monitor setup work?

I have an 6800 AGP video card.

If I get another PCIE video card and another monitor, can I run the game in one monitor with the PCIE card while showing the desktop in the AGP card?

And will the resources be split between the 2 cards?

And can I run 1 game in the 2 monitors? Say for instance BF2. can I have the game run on the PCIE card and have the overmap run on the AGP card?

And will the resources be split between the 2 cards?

If you need just to do two monitors, I don't think you will gain any benefit by adding another card. I mean doesn't your 6800 has 2 output already?
Beside having 2 cards might actually create more problem in configuration that it is.

In term of games, some games can use 2 monitors. Most however only works on 1 monitor, while the secondary monitor usually will be left alone showing the desktop (I'm not entirely sure on this however since it has been some time since I used dual monitor on my system).

As far as resource split, I'm not entirely sure on this. I've never seen a comparison on resource usage between 1 card vs 2 cards on one system. But I would guess it will definitely take up more resources to drive 2 cards than 1, I mean drivers and what have you.

Hope this helps a bit.

The only game that I have ever seen with explicit dual monitor support is Supreme Commander. You can have independent zoomable views in eahc monitor there.

Generally, you will either just be playing on one of the screens.
