It's a well documented trick used by old macigians back in the day, used with one foot being at the right angle to produce a shadow that blocks the heel of the other foot. It has to be exactly perfect or else it will look completely fake. What they didn't show on the show was how many times he failed. Also, the show is a bit faked since people were called back and david was leviatetad with wires, then the producers mixed that levitation with the classic one. A bit shady to me.
