I'm think of selling some stuff at ebay and I have paypal how does it work? Were does the money go?

any tips for selling at ebay?

Well, you have to create a Paypal account. It basically just serves as an online bank account for you. You can put money into there via funds from a credit card or your checking/savings account. You can also get money into your Paypal account from someone sending their own Paypal money to you.

Example:

You selling something on eBay
The winner pays you via their own Paypal account. Which means they "send" you funds that goes directly into your Paypal account.
From there, those funds just sit in there until you want to do something with them. You can bid on auctions and use those funds to pay for them. You can transfer those funds into your bank account. etc...

Uhh? lol.. Why do you have PayPal if you've never used it before? Or.. WTF? Can't.... grasp... question.....

When you list an eBay item, you can make PayPal an available payment option by clicking the checkbox and putting the email address you used to sign up on PayPal in the text box.

When someone pays you money, it goes into your PayPal account. PayPal is more or less just another bank.

You can then transfer the funds to your "normal" bank account, or whatever you wish.

You list or "create" the eBay auction, showing a picture, a brief description, your asking price, payment instructions and shipping details.
People bid on your item.
Someone wins the auction, you send them a "congratulations you won" e-mail asking them for payment.
They login to their Paypal account and send Paypal to your e-mail address.
You receive an e-mail notification from Paypal that a payment has been sent to you.
Funds are sitting in your virtual Paypal.com account (it's NOT A BANK and NOT FDIC insured). Then you can withdraw funds into your bank account. It's FREE and in about 3 days the funds will appear in your bank checking or savings account.

Make sense?

Very cool rossman. 🙂 What makes paypal any safer than other means like MO? Seems to me once I sell something to someone they could easily "charge back" after they get it saying 1) they did'nt get it 2) broken etc etc etc. I'm selling some high end audio and don't want to to get screwed.

they would have to file a complaint, which would be reviewed by paypal. just make sure to keep all emails, etc from the deal. also make sure to ship the package with tracking, so you would have proof it was in fact delivered.

In that case I would read and follow Paypal's seller protection policy.

Also make sure to ship the item using tracking and REQUIRE a signature, DO NOT SEND VIA USPS.

I have a quick question as well. Do you guys normally shop items as soon as the money hits Paypal, or after you move it from Paypay into your Bank account? Is it safer to use a credit card rather than your Bank account?

I just signed up for a Paypal account a few minutes ago because I need to sell a 70-200 F4 L Canon lens and 1.4x Extender and need to protect myself.

I always wait until it's in my bank account.

It doesen't really matter though, if the payment was reversed, your PayPal account would just go into then red. You'd either just have to stop using PayPal, or end up taking the loss or whatever.

I'd say that only taking a money order offers just as much protection as PayPal.. heh.
