I have AnagramGenius and it only works for 10 trials.
I was wondering how it "knows" when I ahve used it 10 times.
This is a purely academic question.
I would never try to spoof the software by editing an *ini file.

Registry or a file somewhere. certainly doesn't have to be an ini file.

Registry issue. A few programs can be reset using a little registry hack here and there, but that of course is illegal.

Just for intellectual curiousity, how does such a thing work?

I'm pretty sure it could be as simple as the program modifying a registry key to update a value each time the program is run. This could all be painfully obvious to someone with a decent knowledge of the registry. On the other hand, some of those trials can get pretty complicated (hence your cracking groups).
