How does returning stuff work?

I have been having problems with my memory. I can only get it to work at 800mhz instead of 1066. I am thinking that I got some bad memory or something along those lines. How does getting it replaced work? Do I send mine in and then wait for the replacements to come. Or, do they send me the replacement and I send mine to them when I get it. I think that it would be the first one but I hope for the later. It would suck to have to shut my computer down for 6-8 weeks while I wait on the replacement.

It depends on the company. First class outfits will do a cross ship and send you new stuff while you send the old back. In your case though you are still troubleshooting and are unsure that your memory is really faulty. Can you try your suspect memory in a friends computer to try to pin down the problem?

Only disadvantage is most companies will charge you for the cross-shipped product until they can inspect your return and verify.

Do not ever ship anything back without insurance and an RMA number either.

I am almost 100% possitive that it is the memory. It runs perfect at 800 but won't run at 1066. So, I think I either received faulty memory or they sent me pc800 in a pc1066 package. Pc1066 is what I paid for. i did some more research and on AsusBoards everyone says that pc800 will not function properly on the x4 BIOS setting. It gives memory errors. Most of the people there think that I received "rebadged" pc800 modules. So, I am sending it back and unfortunately they don't cross ship. So, once I get my RMA # I will have to priority mail it and then get them to priority it back. I can't be without the computer too long.
