It is so popular because a majority of the population are idiots and enjoy watching what is supposedly reality.

Reality TV does nothing, but provide people with a false sense of reality.

they need to come out with a show called "Who wants to marry a 31 year old, chubby, computer programmer, who still lives with his parents?"

THAT is reality tv.

I agree with you 100%. Not to mention you often have to question the amount of power of suggestion that these shows have on their audience. I honestly think that most people actually feel as if the events on these shows are considered "reality." In my opinion they are just a compilation of no-brain assclowns that are thrown in some house somewhere and are asked to make themselves look as stupid and shallow as possible. I often wonder why these types of shows are even watched? Are they used as an escape from the viewers own pathetic lives? What is the motivation behind all this "reality tv"? Am i missing something here or are these shows just crap?

It's playing on irc #singles right now.

That's basically it. Its fun to laugh at other people's problems in the comfort and privacy of our own homes.

Because Americans (as with most humans) prey upon the pain and humility of others.
