I have one running at PE speeds (not much of a difference; the core clock on the PE is greater by less than 1%). It plays Call of Duty 2 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted perfectly fine at maximum settings but only 2x AA at 1024x768. Frames were pretty smooth but in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, it would have been noticeable if they were higher.

The X850XT will run games decently at 1024x768, maximum settings with minor AA but if you are a hard-core gamer then it's on its last legs. On the other hand, it is slightly faster or slightly slower (depending on the game) than the 7600GT so if you are willing to buy a 7600GT then you will probably be satisfied with the X850XT. I got mine on eBay for $62 shipped two months ago which is still a good deal today considering 6800's and X800's are starting around $80 shipped in the forums; maybe you can do better. Since the X850XT is cheaper than the 7600GT by about $20 it is a better deal but remember that it does not support Shader Model 3.0. It is slightly faster on average but not enough to make a big difference.

Forget the 7600GT. At this price point it's a much better buy to go for the X1950 Pro.

It's a nice card, I used to have it's older brother the X800XT PE and I was able to run F.E.A.R. with everything maxed at 1024x768 and 4x FSAA and no problems with it, also I was able to run Oblivion at the same resolution with everything on high and 4x FSAA too, it always ran between 30 and 65fps, the only game that strangled my card a bit was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and was because of trying to play the game on high with only 1GB of RAM. This card may be is not able to play at high resolution, but still able to play any game today on high with FSAA on standard resolutions like 1024x768 or some less eye candy at 1280x1024, it's a feat of a 3 years old card based on a 5 years old architecture.

So you're saying you played Oblivion with all settings maxed at 4xAA with 1GB of RAM and an X800XT? If you said you got between 10-20FPS (or less) then I would believe you, but 30-65fps leads me to call SHENS. Even at 1024x768.

I have my X800GTO2 converted to an X850XT, and can easily play Oblivion at 1440 x 900, without AA, and the settings not maxed, but set to decent quality. I get around 30-60 fps most of the time. I did install a few mods, such as the short grass mod, to keep things running faster, though. I also cut back a little on the view distance.

That card still going strong, when I played Oblivion, I installed the Make It Pretty Mod and Short Grass Mod, also I used the FakeHDR mod with simulates HDR using Pixel Shaders and everything ran smooth, it always ran between 30fps in the outside, up to 65 in the indoors. Also bear in mind m1ldslide1 that Oblivion doesn't need 1GB to run smooth. Have you ever played it?? If you did that will explain you why there's so many loading checkpoints in the game, to keep memory usage low. Even I played F.E.A.R, at 1024x768 with everything maxed without Soft Shadows and 4x FSAA and the game played smoothly, sometimes it used to lag because of the lack of RAM, that game really needs 2GB of RAM in high quality mode to play smooth, don't underestimate the power of the X8X0 series of cards. :)
