How does PM work?

I sent a test PM to myself after I activated it but I don't know how to read it or whatever. Can anyone explain how it works?
 
Under the Anandtech logo (top left hand side), you should see a little padlock in a box that reads either "no" "1," etc "new message(s)." When you get a pm, that will start to blink. Just click on it, nd it will open up a window so you can read the pm.
