What resolution does the 42in plasma run at? 1080(I/P)? It'd probably look like the PC is running at 1920x1080 then, just less sharp and stretched out. But then again, you'd be sitting further back most likely and wouldn't notice any degradation from the stretched display.

Pick up one of the 30in WS LCDs with the 2560x1600 resolutions instead.

I need it for the living room as a home entertainment setup so it would be used 95% of the time watching TV and movies.

Chances are a 30" PC LCD is still going to be more than a 42" plasma.

Are they even making 1080P plasma's at less than 50"?

1920x1080 can look great on a 42" as long as you aren't sitting 1 ft away.

I'm sure you can find something better than Halo 2 to play on it as well, :p

I've been eyeing the Hitachi 42 inch plasma special at SEARS for about $760 bucks...

That couldn't possibly be 1080p. I have a 40" LCD that does 720p/1080i and it is decidedly a mixed bag. At 1920x1080 Madden looks great, Company of Heroes not so much.

If you do that though the graphics horsepower required to run @ 2560 is going to be significantly more than 1080P right? I haven't kept up with benchies so I can't say for certain.

<---Loves his 37" Aquos 1080P LCD.

Considering almost all plasmas of that size are 1024x768 with rectangular pixels, it will look terrible. You'll have to run your games at a widescreen resolution. If you use 1280x720 the screen will then scale down horizontally, scale up vertically, and then display that on rectangular pixels. Stick with LCD.

My 47" Westinghouse LCD looks beautiful at 1920x1080 res. I sit about 8 feet away while I play games.
