How does one teach one self to swim?

I can't swim, but I want to learn since summer is just around the corner. Is there a Swimming for Dummies book I can get?

drowning a couple of times usually helps.

no seriously, just hold on to the edges, and start paddling your feet for a few days....and then, try to swim, but stay close to the sides to grab onto if you drown...and practice practice...

Just remember, if you try to learn solo make sure you are in the shallow end
The deepest par tof the pool is only 5 ft deep so I'll be okay.

i think this is where the term..."jump off the deep end"... originated, no?

😉
But that makes no sense. Shouldn't it be, "jump into the deep end"?

Entering Puerto Rico trench according to the charts. The water depth is 14,570 feet deep. I wouldn't want to fall overboard.

Jesus Christ! We're in the Bermuda Triangle!

I don't ever remember a time when I couldn't swim. Jump in and roll on your back and stabilize yourself so you float, then kick and flail. You are swimming a backstroke.

just jump in... if you were meant to swim, you'll swim

Bwahahahaha. That's right, go to local swimming pool, walk to 2m region and jump in, and start flapping your arms and legs. If you drown, the life guard will safe you.

i would definatly take a basic swimming class at your local YMCA or health club. it will give you some basic tips as well as water safty, etc. other than that, just get in the water and bobb around, just push yourself around til you get comfortable.

meh don make a big deal about it. It really isnt hard at all. Use a kickboard and kick around. Then you will get used to it very quickly.
