How does one take a screenshot of a video playing?

I never heard of this problem before. I tried taking screenshots to compare video quality inbetween driver versions on my 6800 GT.
I take the screen shot with Print Screen. I paste it into paint and then it shows the video from the video if it is still running or if not it shows a black screen where the video still should be.
Then if I save the screenshot as a bitmap and open it later it shows a black screen. Here is the kicker.
If I open any movie be it WMV or AVI and strart playing it it runs the movie in the movie player or in the screenshot. SO it looks like a screen of my desktop the way it was before only now playing the movie I currently have playing live. I never noticed this before always PRINT SCREEN captured whatever you had on screen no matter what it was. Now I dont get it it must be intentional by Nvidia or Microsoft. Is there a setting I can set to fix it or another utility to take the SS?
