When I was younger, my family (parents + siblings and myself) built our cabin from the ground up.
This time around, when I move out of my condo, I was curious how one would get financing to buy a plot of land, level it up to code, get blueprints, hire contractors, etc.
Do you apply for a normal mortgage, get a good faith estimate, and then what? How do you go about doing this usually?
I plan to have 10-20% down + whatever I make off of my condo. That wont be enough to pay for everything though, plot/contractors/etc.
Anyone ever do this sort of build? I want a customized house, and am willing to pay the extra, work closely with an architect as well...nothing cookie cutter.
