How does one get into a black ops kind of service?

It's hard to explain, but the kind of job where no one knows you exist. Where you have to give up your friends/family in order to take said job. You go on covert missions (be it squad based or not) and learn pretty deep military training. More so than the average soldier gets.

Isn't this the existence of most MMORPGers?
You give up your friends and family to join a group (online) and live out your existence in the basement so no one knows you exist. Your training includes eating doritos and drinking Mt Dew, while storming the dungeons of the underworld.

Kinda like how my sheer desire to be a brain surgeon just isn't enough to be one. Dammit!

Start by going down to your local US Army recruiting station and ask for a "Ranger" contract. US Army Rangers are "entry level" special forces. Once you become a Ranger you will have the opportunity to move into other areas if you are good enough.

I think Governor Schwarzenegger would be more than qualified to give you a few pointers.

If I do this is there any way they can pigeon hole me into being a crappy basic Iraq grunt?

...that's what most SF start as: regular infantry.

Expect to go to Iraq and be shot at for next to no money

You've already proven in this thread you are not the caliber needed for SF.

Well if you wash out of Ranger school you're still in the Army so bye bye!

Even if you pass Ranger school you're still going to Iraq or the likes.

Because I don't want to be like every other no name piece of trash over there?

I have no problem with the idea of being shot at, but I'm not going to do it as generic infantry. If that means no SF for me then so be it.

Join the Marine Corps as Infantry, excel in everything you do, apply for Marine Force Recon, excel in everything you do in there. And then "they" will find you and ask if you would like to work for X agency and your current contract with the Marine Corps will be null & void.

No name piece of trash? Everyone over there is doing a job, so stfu. Walk into a recruitment office and say that if you want to get your nose broken. Sitting at home thinking about how cool it would be to be a SF operative isn't the sort of behavior the army is looking for.

Not afraid of being sent to Iraq, but not wanting to go as a normal soldier. Boring waste of time.
