How does my resume look?

I've been so lazy lately... I should've had this crap done long ago given that my school's Career Day is the 27th. I really think I should get an internship soon, I started my junior year and an internship at the end during the summer would be killer.

I don't have anywhere to host the file, so I'm just going to paste:

OBJECTIVE - A summer 2006 co-op or internship position in the field of electrical or computer engineering.

EDUCATION
Michigan Technological University, Aug. 2004 ? May 2007

WORK EXPERIENCE

Managed inventory ? physically and via software·
Involved in various self-directed projects

RELEVANT SKILLS

Microsoft Access/Word/Powerpoint/Excel 97/2003·
Red Wing Windows business software·
Java, HTML languages, Verilog HDL·
MATLAB, Labview, Max+plus II software packages
Troubleshooting and building computer hardware systems

It is laid out clearly and neatly in my Word document of course. The top of the document before OBJECTIVE is my Name (as the Header in the file), addresses and email address. The footer of the page is 'Reference Available Upon Request' (i.e. end of resume). All of this is about 90% of usable space on one page, so I can add another line or two still.

I also had one other job, but that was only for 3 months this past summer on work-study at the university library, so I figured that was a waste of space.

But... I don't have much specific projects I've done, no webpage to show any ongoing work, but it's not like I've not done anything outside of school. Still, I don't know of what else I can add.

Comments?

one doesn't usually post GPA in a resume. most job offers are based off what you do, not what you earn. More extracurriculars and more skills will beat out someone with a 4.0 and what you have there . other than GPA, good start :)

Right... I sort've gotten that idea from searching the forums here. Problem is, I don't have all that much to say as far as accomplishments or completed projects, so its like if I'm going against 100 other people, at least if I'm in the 90th percentile GPA-wise, that's at least something... Maybe?

Anyway, anyone have anything else to add? I updated it to its newest form because the job fair is tomorrow @ 9am!! Prolly shouldn't be drinking right now then... heheh

You should always include your GPA unless it's very low.

Objective needs to be a lot more specific.

You need to talk more about what you accomplished at your past jobs instead of just what your duties were.

All I have to say is do co-ops and internships. What yuo do is less important than learning the processes used in industry and employers know this. Based on your grad dates thoguh, it looks like you are on the right track. Based on your GPA, you should be able to get a co-op easy enough.

is your school actually GMI? I think it got renamed to that thing on your resume. If so, you are all set.

Yep. I thought the same thing, but I was told by several people that that's not the case, and you go with a resume whether its for co-op, internship, or you're graduating and need a full-timer. So... YMMV.

As far as GMI? WTF is that? I don't see anyone renamed wrong... I go to MTU.

oh man, i should work on that :p question: if I have an objective to work as a CS or Bioinformatics position, would it be best to make two resumes for each field, or combine them?

You very well should. If you are part of the minority that doesn't have resumes (tho I really don't have any idea about this whole dealio), then you prolly won't get an internship. As far as your question, since it's just MTU's career day, I would probably keep it as one, they are quite similar.. Bioinformatics actually looks interesting, probably the "hotter" field to get into right now than other computer degrees. But if you were actually interviewing I'd probably split it (and you had the skills for each side to back it up).

by split it, you mean split the one resume containing both into two, or make one that's split with both objectives in it? I don't have much in my bioinformatics category until next year when I'll be taking genomics and bioengineering stuff, so maybe I should leave out the whole bio thing since I only have Intro to Bio down so far
