How does my computer turn itself off because of heat if it doesn't have a cpu sensor?

All I have on my laptop is a smartdrive sensor for the hdd.

I think my computer powers off sometimes when it's too hot (at least it feels really hot). But how does it know what's too hot? The hdd sensor? Or something else?

Compaq presario 700us laptop.
 
jagec, I ran the sensors-scan command that is part of the lm-sensors package. Also, in the past, I installed windows software to report on it and nothing ever came up.
