I was under the impression that they did things like stripped books or damaged packaging so that the maker doesn't get any profit. Is that true?

I don't buy things from there because Sega sued their asses for not giving them their profits for the Dreamcasts they sold.

I know walmart sells things for less by paying their employees less.

Huh? They work the same as WalMart, but on a smaller scale. They don't have the clout to get really good prices, so WalMart beats them, but they're still pretty cheap. I haven't seen a Kmart in years.

on a related note, why the fuck do people use layaway? No access to credit cards and inability to save?

It reserves the item so you're guaranteed to get it. If you have to save a few months to buy something, there's no guarantee it'll be there when you're ready. If more people used layaway instead of credit, this country would be in much better shape right now.

Are you part owner of Sega or something? I've never heard someone give a reason like that.

We have a K-mart here. It's about fourth on my list of discount stores. Target > Wal-Mart > Pamida > K Mart

My local Kmart is nicer than any Walmart I've been to. I really don't like going into Walmart but I don't mind Kmart at all.

beyond that, if you're buying for christmas and such, buy the item when deals are good several months out, it makes a lot of sense to not have the item sitting around for a few months. get most of your holiday shopping done in august, then pick up the items just before christmas.

granted, you can get a better result by just putting money into a "christmas savings account", or just controlling your spending otherwise throughout the rest of the year. but it does make sense for people who fail to plan, of which there are millions.

You obviously have no clue how economies of scale work do you?
