How does jury duty work?

As they will actually mail out jury summons to non-citizens, I feel like they never really check on these sort of details. Just check the box on the mailer that you aren't a citizen, and send it back. If you are registered in the DMV, that seems to be all they need to put you on the list.

They sent 3 summons to my GF, and she wasn't a citizen (she is now, though--swore to hold arms and defend the USA against all enemies and all that...except if Latvia attacks the USA. If that happens, she fights for Latvia)


Also, if you're ever called in for selection, you can tell them you are studying for your PhD. Or just tell them you are a lawyer. Two things trial lawyers hate most on their juries: smart people and lawyers.

exactly. "jury of one's peers," it certainly is not.

well....I guess if you consider that the majority of defendants in an average trial are likely going to be coming from the same class of the population, it probably does hold up in the majority of cases.
