how does it feel having 2 gigs of RAM installed?

I got two gigs on a P4 2.8e, plays UT2004 and GRAW with an X800 Pro. I don't recall ever going past a gig of usage.

take 1gig RAM out or not?

Patriot DDR400 Low Latency 1gig kit (X2) on dual channel: 2-3-2-5

Run some benchmarks, run some programs, and then it out, repeat. See if you can notice a difference. Something like that is easy to test for yourself, and it will also be the most conclusive. I myself have noticed a difference going from 1gb to 2gb, but that was mainly in rendering and graphic work...

It feels good.

As in omgwtf awesome good.

I cannot stand using only 1 GB anymore.

Way too long loading or especially unloading (exitting) times for stuff like games.

Plus, it means i can run anything i want simultaneously w/o fear of slowing things down.

In October 2005 I went from 1GB (512MBx2) to 2GB (4x512MB), then I went back to 1GB because 2GN didn't do anything except make me run 2T.
In September 2006 I went from 1GB (512x2) to 2GB (4x512), because 1GB wasn't cutting it anymore in games, but 2GB was a LOT sweeter, especially for load and exit times.

Leave 2GB in, you will make use of it soon enough.

A good point. It shows that programs these days are really starting to use more RAM and thus are negating the performance penalty of running at 2T command rates.

Keep the 2x 1 GB sticks. Having Ram is dual channel also allows it to run at a higher clock speed. When I play BF2 my ram usage is over 1 GB.

I've got 1GB Patriot XBLK / Samsung TCCD (2 x 512MB). Best RAM of its day. When prices took a relative dump almost a year ago, I picked up another set and was able to move the BF2 Texture quality from Medium to the coveted High. Woo hoo, I could read the text on the C4 detonator and it only cost $150... sharper textures was the only difference because my useage does not otherwise exceed 1GB. Ergo, I sold it. At this point, I would hesitate even less to instead sock that moolah away for an upgrade that actually did something like a Core 2 Duo. Unused RAM is the epitome of no bang for the buck. e-gentitalias anyone?
