How does hair know how long it is?

The hair on your legs never gets longer than an inch or two, but if you shave it off it will grow back, and stop when it reaches an inch or two. Even if you just cut it short, it will grow back to an inch or two in length. How does a hair follicle keep track of the length of the hair coming out if it?

it doesnt stop growing, it falls out and new hair replaces it. once it reaches a certain length it goes bye bye.

Then how does it know when it's long enough to fall out?

Yep..

You have many more hair follicles than you see hairs comming out of. Something like 1/3rd of them are dormant at all times, and they go on a 3(?) month cycle.

I wasn't referring to the hair on my legs...more like on my genitalia as it were.

Hm. So you wouldn't want to hear I shave my asscrack hair either?

What's worse - shaving your ass or trying to wipe fresh sh!t out of/having dried sh!t stuck in your asshair? Can't understand why everyone doesn't do it.

Perhaps the hair gets too heavy to support itself and rips itself out under its own weight or something.

I think the only body hair that doesn't "know it's length" seems to be my nipple hair. Now that's a pretty sight.

Nah, it's a time * hair growth speed(both of which are probably genetic) thing.

If your hair is 2" before it dies and goes dormant.. that's just how long it grew during that period.

Babywipes.

Girly? Maybe.

Worth being 100% clean? Yes.

I've never wondered that about the hair on my legs, but I do about the hair on my arms.

Hmm. I shed hair all the time, but it never seems to get shorter or less dense. Interesting. ;)
