How does ghosting work?

My friend and I were discussing ghosting earlier today, and we were trying to figure out if making a ghost image of just mp3s would be more efficient than burning the mp3s directly to a CD. (The logic being that mp3s are compressed as is, and if you zipped them, you'd get bad compression %). I've never ghosted before, so I didn't know if you can say ghosting is equivalent to zipping files, or if ghosting is more like converting a Word document to pdf (at least the logic I figured was that a pdf doesn't keep track of individual images in a document, it's just 1 image, hence the small size).

So basically I'm curious how ghosting works, and as such, would ghosting a partition of mp3s be a good idea?

anyway, ghosting basically makes an image of a partition for backup purposes. ghosting a partition of MP3s would be no better than burning them, although you can use compression (which probably wont help much). the idea of ghosting is that it gives you one output file, and is easier than copying every file on a partition manually (cause youd have to deal with hidden stuff, in-use files, etc).
