Gainward GeForce2 Pro/450 64MB DDR?

I'm thinking of upgrading my video card because my current vid is getting a little slow.

I'm not an expert on the Geforce4 but I'm pretty sure the GF4 MX460 wouldn't be much faster (if at all) than the video card you already own, the GF4 MX is more like a faster GF2. You'd be better off looking at the ATI Radeon 8500 or a GF3 ti200 or something like that!

The GF4 MX460 would waste that GF2 Pro full stop, the GF2 Titanium is faster than the GF2 Pro and GF4 MX460 wastes the GF2 titanium.

Also it beats the GF3 Ti200 in most benchmarks and considering it's a budget line, thats damn good.

Well your GF2 Pro card is very close to GF2 Ti speed(98% or so),anyway go and read Anandtechs NVIDIA GeForce4 - NV17 and NV25 Come to Life article, you will see how it performs compared to other cards and this quote

<< Our recommendation is to stay away from the MX 460 and wait a few more weeks for the GeForce4 Ti 4200; pay the extra $20 and gain full DirectX 8 pixel and vertex shader support as well as two additional rendering pipelines. >>

If you are going to run AA, then it will be twice as fast since the Geforce 4 MX uses multi-sample AA plus it has the lightspeed memory architecture.

sorry but you're dead wrong. None of these cards would "waste" the other they're very similar in performance. If you look at the link provided by mem and look at the unreal 2 section. The geforce4 mx won't be able to run that game at high resolutions however the geforce3 ti 200 will. So whatever you do don't get an mx.

I don't know what the overclocking potential of the Geforce4 MX 460 is. But the only reason it does better in the benchmarks is the 550MHz memory speed. You should be able to get your card up to 240/470 or so and then I bet it will perform close to the same as the Geforce4 MX 460, not much of an upgrade. Right now a cost effective upgrade would be a Geforce3 Ti 200 or a Radeon 8500. If you wanna wait the Geforce4 Ti 4200 should be a great deal.

Thanks, guys... I think I'm gonna wait until the GeForce4 4200 comes out or if my budget allows it, I'll invest in the GeForce4 4600.

VFAA,

Are you overclocking your exiting Video Card to squeese some more performance out of it? I'm getting 220/475 no problem with PowerStrip.

I noticed your running a W2K Server. Are you using this for Gaming :D ?

I'm not overclocking this card at the moment, although I put Thermaltake RAM sinks and a Blue Orb on it. I did have it up to 250/525 before but I went back to default 200/400. It could remain overclocked at 250/525 for about 3 hours playing games like MOHAA and FS2002 Pro. After 3 hours or so I get the screen flickering and have to declock the card. It does pretty good at 245/500 though. If anyone knows some good GeForce type overclocking video programs than let me know, please. Also, I run WinXP Pro :). I use Win2K Adv Server for my server :).

You taking a beta version of a game and one benchmark, Fact is the GF4 MX440 is not supposed to compete againest the GF3 Ti200, it's ment to replace it as a budget line of cards.

A budget card will NOT expect to play over 1280x1024x32 at 80-100fps, 30-40fps is more exceptable and performance will more than lighly be better in the final release of Unreal2.

You can only expect so much performance from a budget line and you dont buy one if your a hardcore gamer that likes 1600x1200x32@100fps in the latest games, because thats just stupid.

I think you're forgetting the overclocking potential of Ti 200's. Most of them overclock to Ti 500 speeds so that's what you should be looking at on the benchmarks. In every one of those tests the Ti 500 clearly beats the MX 460. Also, the Ti 200 isn't a budget card, it performs as well as Ti 500's once overclocked, comes with all the snazzy features(unlike the G4 MX) and just happens to be cheap. I like to refer to my card as a beast rather than a "budget card". So clearly the overclocked Ti 200 will last a gamer a lot longer than a G4 MX would. Especially since 4200's should come out in a few weeks and they'll be reasonably priced. That will be the card to get IMO. Plus at newegg the Gainward Geforce3 Ti 200 is $145 which is not a lot of money even for the budget minded gamer.
