Most people can identify/group languages by how it sounds to them... ie I could identify spanish and french and german and chinese, etc... but maybe not differentiate them from close sounding languages.

What does english sound like to someone who doesnt speak it... does it sound like other languages?

You can sort of tell if you tell your brain to stop interpreting words. It's weird.

Zone out? It's probably easier if you zone out and your mind is thinking in another language, honestly.

I happen to be listening to Steel Pulse (reggae)... so I tried it. It's easy when you can't understand what they are saying because they are using an extreme patois!

My friends from China say we sound like this:

Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya...... Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya... repeat

When they speak like that and mimic me, it does sound sort of close... in a totally silly way.

It probably sounds the same as you listening to a language you don't speak/read/know.
Just with different words and sentence structure.

I used to not understand English ~8 years ago. So when I was in elementary school it sounded like they talked faster (than Russian) and "they" love prolonging the O sound as in "love" and the R is much softer, almost like a W. The sentence structure, tone sounded familiar, I could tell if the teacher was asking a question or was giving some information, or what was more important. I was bored like hell though, and I had a dictionary book and try to interpret random words that were written on the board, and just coloring some stuff with a pen to pass time.

It sounds fast. Just like any other language you might not understand.

They cry "racism" and threaten to sue companies until they get subtitles and dubbing in spanish.

Same with the Iraqis I work with.

"Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya?"
"Ya, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya"

Actually English is considered a slow and lazy language. You should try Spanish. It takes like 10 syllables for every 1 of English.
