How does cable internet work? Is it always on or do they turn it on.

I live in a basement apartment and I buy the comcast cable internet and the people upstairs buy the cable tv. We share them and we split cost. It's 10 dollars cheaper if you buy both together so I am going to cancel the Hi speed internet and have them order it. I can't cancel my account until they order it so I am worried if I call and cancel my service will theirs get turned off also (since it's going through the same line, it's just split off at the back of the house)

Does anyone know how this works exactly?

Because I was on hold for 15 minutes so I hung up. Then I figure the people here where probably smarter than them anyway.

I called them and the CS representive didn't really know what I was talking about. He said to call back tomorrow during the day and someone could help me.

Does anyone here know?

the question is confusing me, i read it ealier, i am not sure what you are asking

for single houses, there is a seperate run from the main line/street/wire to each house, you don't share it, unless you or your neighbor are stealing the service

so this is some type of apartment or what?

oh you said basement apartment

um, so was it installed this way by the cable guy?
