How does buying an unlimited plan work?

I see mentioned around here from time to time that people buy and sell their unlimited data plans. How does this work exactly? Do you assume the contract and phone number from the person you are buying the plan from? Certainly you cannot simply apply the data plan to your existing plan right?

Yes. Typically (and the simplest way) is you just assume the contract (or just the account, if it's not under contract) from the person you're buying it from. This usually includes the number as well, although you can change it if you don't want it or even port in your own number (the person selling couldn't keep it, though, at least not without some magic).

The easiest and smoothest way to do it is to just go to the store together and have one of Verizon's guys do the account transfer (name, address, etc). This was how my friend did it.
