How does buying a WoW account really work?

So topic says it all. I haven't been able to find any info on how it really works. I sold my account before TBC because I was bored of the game (did everything there was to do). But I sold to a friend of a friend and I'm not a scammer so I never reclaimed my account.

But now, if I want to buy from somebody I don't know, how can I at least minimize my risk? The only way I can think of is two open a new account under the seller's name. Meet up with him, transfer the character right there and then and have him approve the email Blizzard sends out? I mean that's the only way I can think of...

Any help is appreciated.

you need to get the secret answer

even then the accounts can be gotten back with a photocopied id & I think they need to provide the original cc used to start account

if your method means moving a character to another account, that's probably the best way

I have no idea about this tho cause I've not played since before TBC

I think that's the gist of it. You buy the account, along with the secret answer, and change the email. You open a new account under the seller's name and transfer the toon. Along with the expansion cost and transfer fee, that's an extra $50+ on top of how much the account costs already.

Just buy a leveling service and save yourself the headache, so many scammers it's unreal I wouldn't even bother with it imo.

That is even easier to get hacked. Leveling services also scam you. You play your account for a few months then they hack you and then sell your stuff.

Players can answer the secret question and get their account back (PW changed to something random and emailed to them). Leveling services can get you banned or just steal your account.

Also make sure to besides getting the secret answer you get the CD Key, Blizz will ask for that if there is a dispute over the account too sometimes. But otherwise, yes your safest bet is to make an account under the same name as the one you bought and transfer the character over.

If you use one of those lvl'n services you need to make sure to make a new unique password for as long as they are leveling your character up. Once they are done change the PW again and make sure the PW isn't the same as the PW you on the account you made on their website. I would say making a PW on the website that is totally different as well. Oh, and once they are done leveling up your character I would suggest changing the characters name as they will probably sign your ingame name up for a bunch of ingame spam shit. Oh yeah make sure when you make a account on their site you also use a junk email.

I've sold a few accounts and never had a problem, I give the secret question/pw to them and the CD key. Granted I'm not a douche so the buyers never had a problem either, but yeah the buyer could get it back by faxing stuff to Blizzard. They wouldn't do it though for probably at least 3 months cause more then likely you would use paypal and after 90 days you can't try to get your money back i believe.

I got out of wow right after BWL was farmable. My guild was top 20 to kill Neffy and I was pretty decently geared. I tried the whole selling account thing and was basically screwed about 10 times before I gave up. Played causaully on a PVP server for a bit and then left it. Glad I left because the game is completely different (tried the 10 day free trial of BC).

I don't know if selling has become more legit or what, but when I was trying to it was a huge mess. All the sites for trading/aren't for a profit are full of scammers and the gold sites offer you laughable amounts of money.

Your best bet is to find a friend who has an account that are willing to give it up. Sites like AT which have a good trader/seller community have strict rules against it.

One final note. My old roommate who got me into the game, I played 0-60 with for 3 chars and was a fellow hardcore raider still plays the game. According to him the 0-60 grind is now much easier. The 60-70 grind is the real challenge and time commitment.

Any which way you think about it , they will/can still ban you for buying an account unless it's in your name...
