how does bounty hunting work?

went to howthingswork.com and it didn't really clarify things...

so how does the bounty hunter get money from captures?
 
1) Bounty is put out on person.
2) Bouty Hunter collects the person DoA.
3) Bounty Hunter returns w/ person.
4) ???
5) Profit.
 
Law enforcement usually contracts bounty hunters if they want to make an arrest and the guy they're chasing runs to an area where they might not have jurisdiction or have potential to do more harm than good in order to apprehend him. The bounty hunters will tag along, and if needed, the cops will be like "ok, your show."
 
reason i asked is because i was watching the bounty hunter show with the dog, and it seems like the dog's son would always bail people out and arrest them later...so i don't see how they can make profit?

You 'hunt' for a shop that sells bounties, then you resell them to kids at a higher price. Then... profit.
 
Heres how bounty hunting / bondsmen work:

BILLY BOB gets arrested
Bond is set at $5000 (bond is what you can pay to go free until your court date, when you are given your sentence)
BILLY BOB doesn't have $5000
BILLY BOB goes to DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER and pays him $500. In turn, DOG pays the court $5000 for BILLY BOB to get out on bond.
BILLY BOB shows up for court, and the court returns DOGs money to him.

In this case, DOG has made $500 for lending $5000 to BILLY BOB for a few weeks.

BUT

If BILLY BOB doesn't show up for court, DOG can't get his money back...
So DOG hunts his ass down so that he can get BILLY BOB to court and get his money back.

Basically... but oftentimes the bounty hunter is not the same as the bondsman.
