How does AutoPlay detect the content type?

I had someone call me that when they insert the memory card into his Windows XP PC, it detects it as Music files and gives the Music AutoPlay options. He says that he only uses this memory card for his digi cam so it should only have Pictures.

Is there a way to force AutoPlay to detect that card as Pictures or is there another solution?

Windows scans the drive to see whats on it. Wouldnt be surprised if he had some wav files on it (some cameras will record them) and forgot to pull them off last time he transfered images off....

With the Device in question plugged in, open Windows Explorer and find it's drive icon ... then Right Click on it, select Properties
When that opens, you will see some tabs .. one of them is Auto Play ... when you select that tab, you will see a Drop Down Box
in there you can choose what Auto Play should do with the file types it has listed there

Hope it helps out

That works if it chooses the right file type, but in our case it's going straight to Music opposed to Pictures. I will ask him if there are WAVs on the card though, thanks.

You can also tell it to Take No Action and let the user decide ... or just set it to treat it
as a data cd, in which case the user would use Windows Explorer to read it and decide
what to do with what is on it

HA! Autoplay.... annoying feature and used to stealthily install some software... good riddance... plus VMWare doesn?t appear to like it... You can also specify actions like spyordie said if the user likes the feature...
