The new HD4870 is supposed to also be able to use HDMI to transfer sound to your reciever, however this is using a DVI to hdmi converter as the standard layout print does not have a HDMI port, but DVI is not capable of transfering sound, which was the reason that HDMI was developed to replace the analog Scart cable. But How can AMD/ATI then do it?

I am really tempted to buy a HD4870 when they arrive only for this reason, so would really like to know what kind of hack AMD is doing :)

If it does allow sound, it would probably have a special hookup for sound on the card that connects to your sound card.
