How does ASUS GPU Tweak extend CCC clock sliders?

I have a 7850, whose clocks (as many around here seem to know) may only be pushed so far via CCC. Installing ASUS GPU Tweak and enabling "Overclocking range enhancement" not only enhances the OCing range within ASUS' app, but in CCC as well (regardless of whether the ASUS app is running).

What kind of magic is this?
