I live in Boston, so for alternative/rock stations there's several stations; 92.9, 101.7, 104.1, 107.3/97.7 So one would think that there'd be a great variety on these 4 channels since some play more alternative, and some are more geared towards heavier rock. Yet somehow I hear the same f'ing 20 songs over and over again.

Here's 10:

Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Beck - Loser
Alice in Chains - Man in the Box
Alice in Chains - No Excuses
Kings of Leon - Use somebody
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit
Nirvana - Come As you Are
Pearl Jam - Yellow Led Better

Those aren't bad songs...but I hear them over and over and over again. 2 days ago Everlong was playing on 92.9, 101.7, and 97.7 at the same time. Seriously? I didn't listen to FM radio for 6 years...I start listening again and it's almost all exactly the same. How does anyone listen to this?? It's making me sick of all the songs I like.

That is the way the radio business works. Only the most popular or up-in-coming artists/songs get any airtime. Honestly, I can't remember the last ime I turned on my car radio to listen to FM. It must have been 5 years ago or more.

The advent of digital media has allowed us to listen to what WE want to ... not what the man wants us to.

The most overplayed song lately has been Sometime Around Midnight by who the heck cares.

I prefer radio to purchasing ANY music, at work I listen to Net Rock Classics which is decent.

ive heard the beck song a few times in the past month or so, but not regularly. the other songs i rarely hear on the stations i listen to, but i do know what you mean about the repetition. i listen to fm in my truck most of the time, but luckily the station i listen to seems to mix it up a bit. the edge 103.9 is notorious for repeating the same 5 songs all day tho.

I agree.

yeah...101.7 reallly turned into a regular non-independant station. Years ago, you could turn in to that station and hear them play everything from britpop to not known indie bands. Today, it's pretty much the same crap as any other mainstream station. You're lucky if you even hear Blur's Song 2, which is mainstream now.

104.1....the only reason to listen now is b/c of their morning show, but even now, they stuff gets old. You can only do dumb stuff to Adolfo so much. Adam 12...I can listen to Alice in CHains only so much

107.3....they have always sucked.

92.9....whatever...I am suprised they are still afloat. I guess not having radio personell helps.

The college radio station here is exactly as bad as the ones the OP is complaining about, at least during normal listening hours. If you want to hear what you actually expect a college station to sound like, you have to listen late at night or weekend mornings or something.

Even the popular "indie/local" station replays the same songs over and over again, just replace popular 90s bands with slightly less popular 00s bands. I am not a huge music fan so I don't even know what any of the songs or bands are called, but I hear the same ones repeat all the time. This is on 89.3 in Minneapolis (The Current). Like nakedfrog suggests, the only time they have interesting music is during one of the evening or weekend times when they have a theme (I like it when they bring on the guy who just plays local hip-hop; way better than commercialized rap).

My radio is pretty much permanently stuck on NPR. Only programming worth listening to these days, and even then only some of the time.

The radio got stolen out of my car a few months ago so I can't. The wiring got all fucked up and I don't wanna pay to fix it to put the stock radio back in.

So no music in the car? That'd drive me nuts.

On the OP, it bugs the hell out of me too. I've actually considered XM for this reason exactly, but I'm not in the car enough to justify it.

lol...they stopped playing that song here....

funny thing is that song by the Ting Tings....they used to play that song over and over again on "rock" stations months ago. The record company decided, "lets give the song second wind", and now it has hit MOR air waves.

Are headphones/earbuds legal in the car? I've seen a lot of people lately with them in, but it seems like it'd be dangerous.

Because I'm too cheap to buy an MP3 player and music and too lazy to manage it even if I did.

No. You plug your media player into an auxiliary port on your car radio.

Which is why I don't listen to AM/FM radio at all anymore. I have Sirius/XM and my ipod in the car.

i hate the commercials and a REALLY HATE listening to two morning radio personalities blabbering about non-sense or giving their view on some news story. I really dont understand why people like that stuff.

Obviously lots of people do because in any thread about mp3 players they complain incessantly about the ipod's lack of an FM tuner. I for one never understood it as the local stations here are all clearchannel bilge or other horse crap.

In my car it's AM sports talk radio or iPod. Can't remember the last time I pushed the FM button.
