How does Anandtech make money?

The recent thread by a moderator who talked about other mods wanting to shut down ATOT got me to thinking.

If Anandtech's primary source of revenue is from advertising dollars and those revenues are directly correlated to traffic counts and ATOT is clearly the largest driver of said traffic, well it would seems seem silly to talk about shutting it down.

Am I wrong?

discuss!

they have what? 120,000 registered members, I think they can handle losing 50 of the trouble makers and still get by.

I'd venture to guess that AT makes craploads of money. I do think it'd be a big hit to their traffic stream if they got rid of OT, so I doubt they will.

i think it number of clicks on the ad. thewrefore, atot has less hardware interested people and less clicks than GH. i'd hate to see it go though. i cant believe it took me more than 1000 posts before finally venturing here, but now i spend a lot of time here.

oh wait, sorry. i think i just bought some logic to atot. i'll show myself into the corner.

On one hand, you're right with the ad revenue...

On the other hand, some other members could've offered some head money on your account, Alchemist99

Traditional wisdom says forums struggle to pay for themselves with advertising, so shutting down OT would be unlikely to have an impact on AT's bottom line(it may even improve it).
