How does amd check their cpu's??

I am testing my overclocked cpu, currently at 1400, and I was wondering how AMD (or Intel) check's them.
I guess that an AMD 1, 1.1 and 1.2 are basically the same and a test tells them what speed they can do.

What programs are they using or is it a hardware based setup or ....?????

As yields improve I would think there just sorted\marked by demand....Would make no sense to me to make substandard yields to make slower parts when overall cost is the same per chip to make. I would think they would only test a certain percentage of chips for the hight end of the spectrum.
