How does a Zip drive work answer soon please

Hi I would like to know what a Zip drive is, How it works, Pro's and Con's of it, and what do you call the thing you put in the drive. Thank you for people that answer

any reason why a cdrw wouldn't fill your needs, holds more data than a zip. every computer has a cdrom, sharing files is much easier that route...no. a zip just seems outdated, unless you have a certain reason for wanting one.
Think of a zip-drive as one big floppy disk....zip disk can hold 100mb-250mb vs. a floppy 1.44mb....cdrw 650mb.

ahhh.....well here is the definition of a zip drive;
The Zip drive is a storage device manufactured and trademarked by Iomega. The Zip drive stores 250 megabytes on disks similar in size and appearance to standard 1.4 megabyte floppy disks, but Zip drives cannot read or write standard floppy disks. The Zip drive has become the almost universal choice for intermediate-size removable storage, in no small part because there are versions of the drive to accomodate every taste. Various versions of the Zip can connect to the computer via the parallel port, SCSI port, USB, IEEE 1394 (Firewire) or internally via the IDE interface.

--available in many different interfaces (USB, IDE, etc)
--faster than burning a CDRW

Con
--media is relatively expensive
--relatively low amount of space available
--susceptible to damage from magnetic fields
--not every machine has a Zip drive
