How does a US Navy ship get hit by another ship?

I doubt any nation on earth ever had a Destroyer broadsided.

HMAS Voyager was a Daring class destroyer, cut in 1/2 by an aircraft carrier 90 odd people died.

Maybe the container ship was carrying illegal cargo? You know stuff like criminals, Muslims, weapons, etc. I see nothing in the news about what happened to the other ship. Was the crew arrested? Did the captain make a statement? What about the owners of the cargo vessel?

More information on the collision, however, the investigation is still just getting started. I remember speaking to the crew on another DD and they were very informative about certain activities that occur during that watch like booty calls. If crewmembers were negligent in not manning their posts there could be come serious consequences for this tragedy.

Can confirm with you that prop shaft bearings are fairly temperamental and tricky to align properly having done shafting work on four DDG's a couple of FFG's and CG's within the last ten years, including removal, reconditioning and re-installing shafts, bearings rudders and screws. Rigging for and Installing body bound bolts on bearing housings while keeping everything aligned is a really painstaking and energy draining task considering how hot, humid and claustrophobically cramped together everything is in those shaft alleys.

Again, someone wasn't doing their job. A whole lot of people were not doing their job. Makes me angry. You've got a job to do. You do it. If your job is to supervise others, then you do it. That's why your there. To do your job.
