How does a Sonic Care toothbrush get charged?

Just got mine, and there are no metal contacts on the brush or on the charger unit, and plastic doesn't conduct electricity. Even if it did or if the electricity 'jumped' the plastic, wouldn't it melt/burn? Obviously it works, but I'm at a loss to explain how.
