How does a seller on ebay pay for buyer return shipping?

Bought a CD changer to aux adapter on ebay and the description is for a Toyota 5+7pin connector vs. a 6+6pin connector which I received. Seller shipped from China very cheap but shipping back is going to be nearly half the value of the item. The seller claims he will pay for the shipping back and that all I have to do is ship the item first. Thing is, I've sold on ebay and I'm pretty sure the maximum the seller can do is give you a 100% full refund. That's pretty useless in this scenario because 1. shipping was free and 2. I'd still be out money, half the value of the item!

I'm not aware of a way to do a 150% refund and the only thing I can think of that the seller could do is create a USPS prepaid shipping label for me to ship the item with but I doubt someone from china would be able to do that.

I've already filed a dispute with ebay but I see this getting very messy very quickly.

Always, ALWAYS sort your listings for that item from U.S selers first before you buy half a world away. You may in fact be surprised many U.S sellers already bought about a 1,000 of those from China already.

I may be wrong, but it's usually the buyer that pays for return shipping. But if the seller offered, then why not. Yes, have him create a prepaid shipping label. If that's even possible. The fun will lie in the customs form you have to fill out.

If you're out only a few bucks I'd say eat the loss and learn a lesson. Sorry man.

If the product was not as advertised it's up to the seller to pay for shipping if they want it back and if they refuse you file a dispute and keep the product.

Do not ship it first as it's up to them to secure the method of getting it back to them and it sounds like a scam.

eBay has a return process. Open a case for Item Not As Described.

I did but from what I know, ebay is going to make me do a return. If the seller claims that he will pay for the return shipping, I'm not sure how. At this point, it feels scammy and that he is going to make me pay for the return shipping through the refund of the purchase price.

When eBay sides with you, they will have the option to print a shipping label from them AFAIK. Similar to Amazon. And, just a note, there is no real verification of what the package is. If you were a scammy douchebag, you could send the seller a box of dogshit and as long as it was delivered, you get refunded.

eBay should provide a return label to you that is charged to the seller unless the seller has designated "no returns."

eBay lesson #1: Never buy from a seller the doesn't offer a return window, preferably 30 days, no questions asked.

Ebay ruled in my favor, got a full refund, don't have to ship anything back. Because it was international and the item wasn't as described, ebay cannot provide a prepaid shipping label to ship it back. They said it was a good thing that I didn't pay with my own money to ship the item back because as I correctly thought, knew that the seller wasn't going to be able to refund me through ebay for the shipping costs. Ebay told me the only way they could have done it was for the seller to send me via paypal the money for the shipping costs, they would see the transaction ID, and then approve the return receipt, etc. etc. I'm still fairly certain there is no way the seller would have paid $15 to ship a $23 item back especially considering it was free shipping on the way here.

Thanks for posting your experience. Glad it worked out.
