How does a Radeon 32mb DDR compare to a GF2MX-400 64mb?

Basically just looking for opinions on which is faster. I've got a Radeon in my current machine. I'm going to get another card for a second machine (probably the geforce2-mx-400 64mb) and just want to know which card should go in the primary and which should go in the secondary.

Thanks.

I agree with the above suggestions. Especially since you have a DVD in the primary rig (assuming your system rigs page is accurate.)

Why waste any money on a crappy nVidia product? I'd buy another Radeon for the second machine - the LE version is around $75 shipped. Not only is it cheaper than the GF2MX, it is superior in just about every category, and esp. when it comes to 2D.

I'll agree the GF2 MX is NOT a great card at all anymore........but one thing puzzles me......I'm positive I'm seeing some of the same people use names like "nVidiot" when reffering to video cards in some threads.......then, some of the same people "can't wait" for the nFORCE?????????;) Seems like a conflict of interest now doesn't it?????;):Q LOL!:)

I like variety. Even though my Radeon is a great card when I buy a second card it'll definately be something different. Besides the secondary machine will run Linux only and from what I've heard Nvidia's Linux drivers are very good. Who knows though. I might end up going for a Matrox G550 or something similiar for the second machine since I don't anticipate doing much (if any) gaming on it.

Well I've never used the word nvidiot (though I am anxiously awaiting the nforce). There's not really any (hardware) company I have a grudge against. I even think Via's current line of CPU's have promise . . . :) (I smell dual Via C4 1.2ghz chips in my future :)).

The DDR will stomp the MX silly ;)

If you want something non-Radeon as a good secondary gaming card, might I suggestion a Kyro2? They don't cost that much more than a GF2MX, and in most cases will perform slightly better, but in some circumstances the Kyro2 can hang with a GF2Pro. And it has nicer 2D than the MX.

If you want something for a linux box I'd try to get a Matrox G400, the drivers are built into XFree, the 2D is top of the line, and 3D speed is around a TNT2, which is probably sufficent for a Linux box.

nVidia does have good Linux drivers, but I've heard they are a pain to install, the 2D quality is a bit lacking, but the 3D speed is better. Not sure if that matters to you on a Linux box or not.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'm going to go the Matrox route (G550, G450 or G400; Haven't decided yet) on this one. I do want 3d for the occasional Linux game but the secondary machine is going to mainly be a workstation box (I basically just want to get rid of the Banshee that's in it now).
