Depends on the number of players, if it's not too many then you can host it on your own home server.

i was hoping for like 30.00 per month at max if i got to rent one, id like a 20 player or so,
if i have the ability to ban people or boot them its as private as it needs to be.

We rent one from a place called NFO, Nuclear Fall Out. We have a 20 person public server and a 12 person private. Prices depend on what features you want. I'm sure you can find one in your area by doing a search.

T-1 isn't all that great. It's just 1.5mbps up and 1.5mbps down. You can get that same service through a DSL provider for much cheaper. You don't need THAT much reliability (because that's what you're really paying for) on a CS server.

Look ace, I didn't say they were the best nor I doubt you are the friggin authority on CS servers. I told him what we used. No need to be a smart ass. You could of said what server you recomend with out your opinion about our server.

Besides, what's wrong with NFO? facts and data....

Well I'm the Server Admin for a community that rents out servers. It's not our speciality but we do have availability. For a 20 man server you're looking at $40 a month though from us. Comes with this though:

HLStatsX stat tracking
Webmin control panel (server stop, start, restart along with file manager)
Your own subdomain with hosting services on an Apache server

You might be able to do that but how much of an upgrade is available? For a decent ping 20 man server upstream is typically recommend at close to a megabit.

Rent one. There are tons of server hosting companies. And dont bother hosting it off your cable, it'll lag like hell and no one will want to play. Not to mention u wont be abel to play.

Don't bother. Cable upstreams are too slow and can be quite unreliable compared to dedicated hosting.

I've found that about 60% of admins have let the "power" go to their head and are A* asshats because of this.

Possibly true. I used to frequent this DC server often, but one night I was playing against one of the admins. It was laste and there were no other admins in there (although there were about 6 other people). I basically kicked this guy's ass in many dogfights and he got all tearful about it. Suddenly I get kicked off and permanently banned from the server. I was so p!ssed off as it was a modded server and was pretty damned good. I was playing really fairly, but I was just better than this kid as DC; dogfighting in particular.

Another A* asshat. And there's no way of speaking to the other admins since I'm now banned...

i havent had any problems yet with admins yet, but i imagine they arent much different then the people who are mods on forums who go around bossing people around, editing threads and leaving their sig as a way of saying i am powerful here and you will learn to obey or else.
i think you need a 3 day vacation for your defiance to our policy here.

things like that really seem to get on my nerves.

seems like the mods here are ether way too busy to mess with people or just dont care much. which is cool either way.

i had 3 servers at once when my "clan" was big.. it was a lot of fun.. rental is way to go.. what coast are you near.. if you rent one near you, you get better pings... some place advertise you get 1 hop towards us, etc, etc.. its almost always bs...

if you're playing for real, home hosting will almost never work, especially if some hpb comes on..

if you're in arkanas, according to your profile.. there are some near dc, east coast hosting, not sure if they're still in business..

i'm in ne, so i'll probably go back with ilan games.. which cs are you doing, source ? I'm picking up a source server soon.. good luck
