in the past few weeks i've been getting some mysterious phone calls. basically, the phone rings, i say hello, but there is dead silence on the other end. no static, not even background noise. been happening off and on for a few weeks now...

oh and i dont have caller id or anything. just basic service.
so tonight the same thing happens. i have no idea who the person is, or who knows, maybe it is a dropped call? but anyway, i decided to try to do *69 to see who it is, and when i did i got 'the number is unknown' automated message.

anyone know what that means? would that be like an unlisted number? or possibly a cell phone? this is all through bellsouth btw.

i think each *69 request nets you a charge too.

That could be any number of things. If it's an ongoing problem, call your phone provider and tell them you're having a lot of dropped calls, and dead calls that don't show up on CID or *69. They can check their equipment and see if it's malfunctioning in the area. For a while I had the same thing, turns out their system was ringing my number without anyone being on the other end, a call to Vzn fixed it right up.

that might be it, except that during the times it happened, it happened at night. and maybe once a week or so. and around the same time. also, if someone tried to call (legit) and it got dropped...i would think the person would call back...
