How do you wash the underside of your car after a snow storm to rid the salt?

Do you just use a hose and spray?

Last year when I used the hose in this weather, the faucet burst when it froze over night (maybe because I forgot to turn off the main valve).

Yea, that would do it. Turn off the main valve and drain the hose. Or just go to a self-serve car wash.

snow? salt? what?

I live in California and I think my car's been in the RAIN maybe 10 times. It's never been in the snow, and there's no salt on the roads :)

I usually goto a specific car wash only places that is automated... they have an excellent underside wash. The wait is usually 30-45mins:eek:

Its the only automated car wash I would ever goto, they use really soft stuff on your car and they hand dry it using people.

Most cars today have pretty good undercoat and you really don't need to worry about washing it off unless you want it to look all pretty under there! Just wait until it rains, and drive through some puddles.

Yeah well, my car's a '95 and the bastard before me didn't like to take very good care of it, and I didn't check under the car.
Thing's rustier than my dad's '92... hole in my cat, mid-pipe disconnected from muffler, etc... :(

Well, you guys down south got earthquakes and hurricanes to worry about ;):p

Salt is evil.

Here in Oregon they use sand, & then go back & vacuum the sand back up to save for next season.

I was in DC over the weekend, my first experience with salted roads/sidewalks/etc.

I am VERY glad we use sand.

I just leave it alone. I figure that by the time I get out of Pittsburgh I'll be able to afford a nicer car.

Get out your yard sprinkler, put it under the car and turn it on.

Let it set for awhile and then move it around so that it covers all of the underside of the car.

Is there a reason Honda vehicles lose the muffler pipe more often than other makes ? Right where the catalytic converter is... the thing has snapped 4 times among 3 Hondas "in the family" within the last 2 years. '90, '89, '97 Hondas. I have a '95 Isuzu that never had a problem (it's higher off the ground though). Even the Meineke guy said Hondas are notorious for this... just a bad design/part or what ?

One 10 second earthquake every 50 years, or three months of salt on the roads every winter..... hmm, tough one :p

Yeah, I love the sand. It was a trip when I got to Mass. and all the roads were wet at 15 degrees. I hate salt.

This doesn't happen to anyone else ?! I was driving my brother's '97 Civic down to DC one day (5 hour drive) and we were stuck on the NJ Turnpike (IN THE LEFT LANE SHOULDER) because the damn pipe fell down. Cost me 3 hours and almost missed my game.

Does Honda use mild steel or aluminized steel rather than true stainless? Salt badbadbad... I'm not going to drive my car unless I have to... otherwise, it's da beater.
