I use it like I'd use a single monitor setup really...

Mostly it's just there to impress my friends.

ding! 95% of users would agree. I had 2, then quickly realized that i never took advantage of it, so I sold one. for the most part it is useless.

Useless? We have dual monitors at work, and we're trying to get them to give us at least one more monitor each, if not two. I use dual monitors for writing papers while researching, using image programs, 3D rendering, video editing...

It's a great thing.

Nothin like a full screen *ehem* video on one screen and a full screen *ahem* slide show on another! I used to have triple screens but went back to dual and a laptop. Gave the extra LCD to charity.

Full screen video on one, surfing on another
Photoshop on one, Flash on another
Browser on one, html editor on another
Anything on one, AIM on another
Word on one, research material on another

I'm suprised most of you guys don't like dual monitors. It's perfect for neffing on ATOT while doing just about anything else but gaming.

edit: The only reason I don't like it is because two monitors take up too much room. If I could only afford LCD's.

My mom is an accountant, so one day I brought over an extra monitor I had so she could expand her spreadsheets a bit. She likes it, but doesn't like a couple nitpicky inconveniences, as anyone else non-computer savvy would...

Browser on 1, AIM & Winamp on 2
Guild Wars on 1, map on 2
Photoshop on 1, tutorial on 2

Those are just a few.

When I had dual monitors, I put my IM windows, WinAmp (small stuff) on the right monitor, and browser, mail, etc., on the left monitor. When I was writing code, I'd write it on monitor 1, and preview it on monitor 2.

When I was full-time trader it was extremely useful. Lvl 2 on one screen along with charts and graphs. Another screen for articles and research along with something for entertainment like MSNBC.

For multitasking, dual monitor is a must. It's hard to go back to single screen after using multiple. Really limits your productivity and feels confined and restrictive. If all you do is game and read and post on ATOT all day, of course single will easily suffice.

if you do work (coding, image editing etc) dual monitor setup is awesome. If its for plain home use...not so much. I have 2 17" at work and much much better than 2, but I woudn;'t buy a 2nd one for my home computer.

The second is only for displaying temperature (system and vid), task manger, WMP, and trillian.

usually TV on one and work on another, although its good for graphic design and web design at the same time :)

when I start school this fall I will be doing research on one and typing on the other... im actually trying to ge a third and go triple monitor :)

I also have a backup computer hooked up to one of my dual monitors so sometimes its flipping between the two computers based on what im doing....
