Get Free Agent here. Then you are all set. Rule number one is still the same. If you are not 110% sure do not open the file. If you need to ask a question about a particular group try and find out if there is a FAQ.

Sure it's possible, it's called Sprint, UUNet, etc.

Creating newsgroups is a big ordeal and usually doesn't work. You have to discuss the new group in alt.config, and you have to get enough positive comments. Then you send a specific message to your NNTP server and *hope* that it propogates to the other servers. Not to mention hoping that the admins will even look at it.

As for files, get Agent or Free Agent and look in binary newsgroups. Just discovering newsgroups is like discovering a gold mine. ;)

Just be careful. They don't call it the "Undernet" for nothing! There's a lot of crap out there, and Big Brother is watching.

nntp: one would have to ask their ISP ;-)

i had to ask mine =S they neglected to mention that information to me when they gave me the info to setup the DSL ;-) but they did tell me how to set up my mail ;-)

--

i used free agent, i like it better than what outlook express can do, and what that stupid thing communicator has...

i have agent now, and it was well worth the price =) actually, i have several instances of agent (each stored in different folders)... one is for *AHEM* the others are for discussion forums, like comp.*** and junk...

newsgroups or usenet... i use it all the time =)... i don't even irc...

my first paid service came from supernews. then i switched to newsguy. now using airnews.

there were a few months overlap between each.

specifically, i have airnews and newsguy right now. i may not renew the newsguy sub, but their servers are great, albeit slower than what i have from airnews...

my ISP used to have supernews, but now uses some crappy outsourced "newshosting.com" which is SOOOOOOOOOOOO incomplete... i mean, my god, htf can they miss 50% of a multipart most 99% of the time...... imagine some 10 part or 20 part post and the server has 2 parts, or 5 parts...

that's why i had to go with newsguy, and now airnews.

though i still use the ISP's thing when they have complete posts...

actually, i can technically use all 3 services at the same time =) talk about "fast"

;-)

yeah, i pay for it, so what?

it really sucks if the service doesn't have the group you want =(

retention sucks now too, because of soooooooooooo much stuff people are uploading to the servers. i mean, once the earliest stuff was A WEEK OLD.... i mean, dammmmmmmmmmmmn.... i usually see a week or 2...

people are uploading WHOLE images i mean, that's some 500MB or 600 MB.... although some images are smaller.....

don't start talking to me about divx..... my god...

AND THERE's a BABYLON 5 GROUP!!!!!! BINARY!!!!!...
