Please convince me how fixing a piece of electronic equipment to view a DVD I purchased is in any way equivalent to stealing software? The bottom line for me is that Hollywood has 0 right telling me what version of a movie I am allowed to view in the privacy of my home or whether ot not I can tape that DVD so long as I do not redistribute it.
If there is something in the DMCA that makes it illegal for me to do whatever I please with a piece of electronics equipment I purchased I will joyfully ignore it. Once again if I pay for a legal DVD I do not care what region it was intended for, as far as I am concerned it is within my right to view it irregardless of that piece of Hollywood payed for garbage known as the DMCA.Originally posted by: Derango

Actualy, according to the law, they do. read the DMCA sometime.
I didn't know it was possible. You are both ignorant and stupid. Just because you don't agree with a law doesn't give you the right to ignore it. Moron.Originally posted by: Linflas

Edit: By doing whatever I please with electronics equipment does not imply I think it right to do things that cause it to emit RF emissions that would interfere with broadcast signals etc.

True, but they didn't ask for information on how to break laws on public forums. Sure, go ahead and figure out how to circumvent whatever you want. Just don't be bragging about it or saying that you should be able to ignore a rule because you don't like it. And these copyright laws don't even compare to the unjust laws broken by the founding fathers.Originally posted by: lirion
The founding fathers broke plenty of laws. Did they do it because they were stupid and ignorant morons, or because the laws were not just?

I will admit I am ignorant of most provisions of the DMCA however I am neither stupid nor a moron. Actually everyone of us ignores laws we don't agree with almost every day. Are consenting adults engaging in sexual acts in the privacy of their own residence regarding which there are laws on the books against both "ignorant and stupid"? Neither you nor I are completely aware of the myriad of laws that sit on the books that we may be breaking in our day to day lives. From this thread I have been made aware of the fact that there may be a provision in the DMCA regarding the end user of DVD players. Personally since I think there is about as much chance of it being enforced against the end user as there is of the sodomy police breaking into my house I will show the same regard for it. If that makes me stupid and a moron well at least I will be a happy stupid moron watching whatever DVD I please in my house.![]()

Ever wonder why you don't see many (if any) region-free players around?
