I noticed in my Device Manager/System Devices, my Processor to AGP controller is dated back to 2001. I went to the Intel website and ran the download, but the info still appears the same. How exactly do I need to update the chipset info?

ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/7484/ENG/readme.txt

I don't quite understand step #4.

I have:

Asus P4T533-C mobo
P4 2.4B cpu
1 gig RDRAM

I already updated motherboard drivers, chipset, and bios.

Thanks.

not quite sure I understand the problem, but that is a 3 year old chipset(850E), so it would make sense that the drivers for it would be from 2001. Are you actulay have issues with your AGP port, or just wondering why there are no newer drivers for a 3 year old chipset?

Well, I just bought a 9800pro from Fry's, and in the instructions it says to update the processor chipset. The link is for an updated 5/2004 download.

I just returned a refurbished 9800pro to newegg.com, but ended up with the same issues with this new card :( (shoulda held on to the refurb). MVP Baseball 2004 runs choppy, and 3dmark03 gives me a low score of 5200. I just read off the ATI site that it might be a refresh rate issue.

So, yes, I'm having problems with my AGP card, and, yes, I want updated drivers if available. Does that clear it up? Sorry if it's still unclear...just ask and I'll do my best to make it clearer. :)

To update your you drivers, bios, ect goto this website:

Edit-Whoops, didn't notice you already did that. Are you sure you don't have AA or AF on? You also said you had issues with a refurb before hand. What card did you have installed before that one?

I had a GeForce3 Ti200. I ran Driver Cleaner before I pulled it out and installed the Radeon. What's "AA" and "AF"? Sorry, I'm a newbie to video cards.

AA and AF improve image quality by smoothing "jaggies" and reducing blurriness, respectively. They come at a cost in pure FPS, however. It could very well be what's causing your low scores and choppiness. You should be able to change these settings through your cards utilities. I've never dealt with an ATI card before, so I don't know where the settings are for sure. When you find them, set both to off/user perference or something to that effect.

Thanks. I'll try that when I get home.

Any ideas about the chipset?

I don't think AA and AF can be turned off in the ATI drivers, and that could definatly be causing the choppiness. Have you updated the video drivers? Also the motherboard has a 4x agp slot, and the 9800 is 8x. In the newest drivers, go to advanced settings and look for the section that says smartgart. Make sure you have it set to 4x in there, and also try turning off fastwrite to see if that helps any.
