I'm looking at buying a bike this weekend. Most likely a 26" mountain bike on the cheap. I'm just wondering how I'm supposed to transport the bike to my house. When you guy these things, do they come with the front wheel detached or what? My car has a decent amount of trunk room, but I'm not sure I'll be able to fit the length unless I detach the front rim-

You should be able to take both wheels off via the quick-release levers. I can fit my bikes in even the trunk of my wife's car (a Sentra) this way.

Get an over the trunk bike rack, you're going to need one anyway. If there's a Dick's sporting goods in your area, they have some really nice ones much cheaper than what you'd pay for the same thing at your bike shop.

Actually roof racks are way more convenient, but more expensive. They're nice since they don't interfere with the trunk lid in any way and getting the bike on and off is very quick whereas you always have to do some fiddling to get a bike securely on a trunk rack. You can use them to haul other stuff as well so I think they're a good invesment. I've had the same Yakima rack for like 10 years and it's holding up great.
