Friend is having some issues with lots of flies, but doesn't know how to find out where they are breeding.

Any advice? I tried Google, but didn't find anything much at all other than some articles that acknowledge it has to be done. Do you just look around for where you see them most?

Houseflies? Just look for trash/carcasses.

Edit: That and maggots. :barf; You'll see them crawling.

When I first read this I thought you said "files".
First thing I would have suggested is check for viruses.

Anywho, I would clear the family out of the house and utilize a bug bomb.

1. Catch them
2. Carefully glue them to a gps unit.
3. Follow them to their secret breeding grounds
4. Profit

For this question, I guess I'm more curious than it is an issue. Besides the density of flies, is there any other way to detect the location? If we kill a few, and can determine the species, does that help at all?

if they are fruit flies - get rid of rotten fruit
big ass house flies - trash inside or outside can breed them, or say a dead mouse in the wall

Anyway to determine if it's coming from a particular room? If yes, then I would look for any cracks in the baseboards, window frames or any place they might be able to come thru.

Fixed.

That's nasty. I'd burn it down and move.
