How do you tell the difference between a pay member and a free member???

Can there be a designation if someone is a paying member or not.

Maybe there can be an addtion to the members status if they don't pay.
Example: Elite Member vs. Free Elite Member
or : Elite Member vs. Elite User

Just a thought

Thanks for listening

And probably will not be.

It was discussed that paeople who pay may get differential treatment than everyone else. And that would be bad. I pay for bandwith, searching, and the 1000 pm limit. Not for a mod to act all goody goody to me.

Why would a paying member be more trustworthy?

Personally, I would like to know in the FS/FT forums. IMHO those who take the time to pay (and not commit credit card fraud against the site), are less likely to be Trolls.

Strange as you might think some trolls have actually paid for subscriptions.

One even tried to tell one my fellow TrollHunters that he couldn't be banned because he was a subscriber here. I guess the mods here didn't see it the same way as he did. 😀

Personally I don't really see a reason to advertise that I subscribe here, nor do I have any desire to know who else does.

Yea, but I suspect those Trolls where easier to track down as someone had valid info on them (or they committed CC fraud which is easier to get the police to understand and persue). Anyhow, just an opinion, I'm not actually expecting the disclosure to change...

One potential way would be to look at any links that the member posts to AT threads.
Non-members usally will not have the subscription embedded in a link that they create.

They could deliberately edit it into the link if they chose to.

Is there any reason, other than trading, why someone would trust a subscriber more than a nonsubscriber?

Heatware should be your first point of reference to decide if you want to trust a trader or not. If they have no evals, check the known-troll list for similar names/addresses. There are trolls out there who scam people for way more then the amount it costs for a 1 month subscription here, so I really don't think that's a good judge of trustworthyness

Although I am a subscriber, I have no desire to know who else is subscribing. I believe that identifying either those who subscribe or don't subscribe could create a sort of "class" society here on the forums. A lot of people are HS and college students who can't afford it. There are others who are hard working people who just can't part with the extra few bucks because the baby needs formula. And, of course, there are those who can afford it but choose, for whatever reason, to not pony up the fee.

Things are fine as they are. We are all equal on the monitor screen.

Anand told nik, in a PM, that there wouldn't be a distinction between subscribers and non subscribers.

is there a "class division" at ars? because i know they let everybody know who is a subscriber and who is not. but i didn't notice any problems arising from that....

Hey,that's easy to figure out, subcribers are the people who aren't complaining about how slow the forums are 🙂

Very true baffled2 😀

JetsFanatic, what I personally feel makes an AT member more trustworthy isn't their post count, but the quality of his/her posts, hope this helps 🙂
