How do you tell if cdr's are Taiyo Yuden?

If you wanna know from the packaging, look for the Made in Japan. I don't know of any other Japanese CD-R manufacturer.

Isn't Mitsui Japanese also? Most of the Fuji's that I've seen are TY. I've also heard that the HP 74min are as well.

I got some at Office Max a few weeks ago and they were indeed Taiyo Yudens.

One of the most reputable CD-R manufacturers. I use Taiyo Yuden-made blanks sold by HP, and they work beautifully.
 
Some of the Imations are Taiyo Yuden also. All of the Fuji's I buy have been. HP's usually are. TDK has gone from them doing it themselves to Ritek so I stay away from them now that I know this. (even tho I never had a problem with them)
