How do you take out a Socket A heatsink?

Taking off? Most likely you would use a screwdriver and push it down to get the metal clip from the plastic hook on the motherboard. Try not to tilt the heatsink while you're doing this or you could possibly chip a corner of the CPU.

That's my video, using my dead 8RDA+ 🙂 It's allllllllllllllll in the wrist, lookit that fine levering action! 😀

Good guide! I learned something new and that's don't use a screw driver but use a socket driver instead.

Mech's info has the basic concepts down but there are many types of Sock-A HSFs (HeatSink/Fans) and some are a bit "different". The Thermal Ingegration "V" series for one. But the concept is the same - get the clips off the 'nubs' on both ends of the socket.
. If a thermal pad was used to install the HSF and it was melted properly, you may have to twist the HS a bit to get it loose - never pull as you can pull the CPU right out of the socket even with the lever locked in place.
